CPR and Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs)

“A terrible tragedy can be avoided by a little bit of knowledge, a little bit of skill and the initiative to be able to step into the breach at a moment of crisis.” Cardinal Seán O'Malley

The importance of CPR training, coupled with the presence of defibrillators in our schools and institutions, can not be overstated.  The American Heart Association states that the chances of surviving a heart attack are reduced by 7 to 10 percent with every minute that goes by without administering CPR and using defibrillation. Few attempts at resuscitation succeed after 10 minutes.

The Office of Risk Management strongly recommends that every school and institution have onsite AEDs, as well as staff properly trained in CPR.  For this reason, we recently teamed with a company called Life Support Systems. Life Support Systems has assisted several of our high schools in installing defibrillators and offering CPR training.

Your organization can request that a representative from Life Support Systems visit your facility, perform a site survey, complete a needs assessment with defibrillator and training recommendations, and create a customized workplace program. Life Support Systems will also maintain equipment for FDA compliance.
