Risk Management Services for Parishes

The most effective way to mitigate the costs and exposures of a large risk management and insurance program is to maintain a high-quality loss control program along with relevant risk management services. The ORM provides a broad range of such services, both on-site and off-site. These services are provided at no additional cost to the parish and are designed to mitigate risks to parish operations while reducing the overall program loss and expense costs.

Some of the standard services offered to our parishes:

On-site “walk-throughs” conducted by ORM staff to provide a broad view of any risks that may be present in parish operations. Risks may be related to safety issues, building condition and hazards, security and operations.

Crisis Response Teams to provide specialized support in crisis management and communications including:

        • risk management and claims support
        • legal counsel
        • internal and external communications advice and support
        • other expertise as circumstances may require

Centrally administered fire alarm system inspections and maintenance, providing quarterly inspection and maintenance of the fire alarm systems located in our churches. It should be noted that, while we strongly urge our parishes to maintain fire alarm systems in all of their buildings, the Office of Risk Management can only pay to inspect and maintain systems within churches.

Claims and litigation management and representation, including subrogation support and pursuit.

Driver license record checks and driver safety training programs, including high occupancy vehicle driver training.

Safe food handling certification programs for cafeteria operations.

High risk equipment operation safety training, such as scissor lift training.

CPR and AED (Automatic Electronic Defibrillator) training and on-site surveys of AED placement and maintenance in parish and school buildings.

Building envelope and engineering inspections, providing a review of the building’s deferred maintenance, obtaining updated engineering information, and identifying potential risks related to building structure and water-tight integrity.

Emergency response guidelines and training for schools.

Data breach prevention and protection services.

Advisory support and standard forms for a variety of situations and events such as field trips, use of parish property by others, fund raising events and events where alcohol is being served.

Presentations to Parish Finance Councils and School Boards of Trustees.

Publication of a quarterly risk management newsletter for parishes and schools.

While many of these services are provided on a routine basis, please contact the Office of Risk Management if you have an immediate need.
