School Use of Parish Facilities

Issued August 14, 2020

With the approaching start of the academic year, there will be an increase in the number of requests from our schools to use parish buildings and available spaces for school activities. The following guidance has been developed in light of the many additional burdens the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on our schools, while remaining vigilant in the protection of parish staff, volunteers and parishioners occupying our worship sites.

Where the pastor feels comfortable do so, and at his discretion, parish buildings and available space may be utilized on a limited basis by our schools for expanded classroom space. Consideration should be given to whether the use of parish space will put a burden on parish operations or place the health and safety of parish staff and parishioners in jeopardy.

The churches and chapels, however, are not to be utilized for classroom or other school purposes.

School physical education and athletic programs should take place on school grounds and contained within the confines of the school. Such programs should not be permitted inside other parish buildings at this time.
