Trip Planning for Parishes and Catholic Schools

When planned with care, day and overnight trips can be an important component in the educational, spiritual and cultural development of students. Despite some of the risks inherent in taking children and youth on ventures out of the parish or classroom, the Office of Risk Management recognizes the benefits of these experiences and encourages trips that supplement learning and spiritual development. Our hope is that such trips are planned with great consideration so that risks can be mitigated and all participants will have a safe and enjoyable experience.

The Office of Risk Management, in collaboration with the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation & Parish Support, has developed a guide to aid you in the process of planning trips to help ensure the safety of your participants. This guide covers both domestic and international trips, and includes sample forms and fact sheets that we hope you will find useful. For a copy of the guide, please download it here:

Please note: The forms within the guide are fillable forms but the forms will only work properly if saved to your desktop. We recommend that you download the document, save it to your desktop, and then fill out and print the forms as needed.
